For those of you wondering, Gnome 2.12 is due out September 7′th. It comes bearing a ton of new features, some tighter Nautilus/Gstreamer integration and a new software package called evince that lets you preview PDF files from file browsers.

Hal and D-BUS are coming along as well, and even more “it just works” stylings of Project Utopia. The new Evolution looks nice, and Cairo is just spectacular. Hey, don’t take my word for it; go and check it out yourself at Davyd Madeley’s Perennial Prerelease Tour.

Reading through the Gaim source code today, I spotted this gem in the util.c file, thought I’d share it with the world.

After putting another hour and change on the new Trek, I’ve spent some time tinkering with Beagle and F-Spot. I think that even if you completely ignore the turnaround that Novell has given to SLES, the Novell Linux Desktop is shaping up to be a pretty nice package of software.

If only their stock agreed with my analysis of their software. Perhaps version ten will provide some good news.

For those who weren’t readers of the previous incarnation of this blog, I’ll bring you up to speed. I’ve been doing it for about three years using various different CMS applications. During the recent server migration, I’ve found myself unable to get cgiwrap working again, thus my blog is high, dry, and inaccessible.

First on my list of things to do is to archive all three years of previous posts to a reasonably sane static HTML format. (I used blosxom, so there’s no hope of integrating with the new blog@USF, sorry)

Next, I plan to tweak the blogUSF theme to reflect a little more of my personal style. Nothing against blogUSF, by the way, it’s very nice, though it feels a tad generic to me.

Gnome-blog already seems to be working great, so some flickr integration and I should be on my way to some pretty seamless blogging. I should also mention that I’m going to try my hand at podcasting, it was neat during the Tour de Lance and it seems that all the cool kids are podcasting now, what with blogging a little passe.

I’ve already updated the header images to include one of myself. I’ll take a few of my steed and the surrounding Temple Terrace scenery later on to liven things up a bit. After all, we see the solarium every day, why not some variety in our blogs?
